The Sony ICD-UX81 Digital Voice Recorder is designed to fit the needs of professionals, academics, and anyone who wants one device for voice, music and file storage. The ICD-UX81 records in MP3 stereo for high-quality sound and support MP3 music playback. With ID3 tagging, the ICD-UX81 displays artist and album information. Because the ICD-UX81 records in stereo in the MP3 format, this digital voice recorder serves as convenient, high-quality portable recording studio. It make it easy to record 'jam' sessions and load them into music software for editing, mixing and transferring recordings to CDs. Small, lightweight and stylish in design, the ICD-UX81 offers USB-direct connect to enable high-speed file transfer to a PC or Mac. With five recording modes, optimal audio quality is easily achieved. Using the supplied headset, the device also has an audio monitoring feature that lets users listen in while recording.
Two GB of built-in IC memory allows the ICD-UX81 to store 36 hours of MP3 music at 128 kbps or up to 581 hours of dictation in LP mode. The Sony ICD-UX81 Digital Voice Recorder provides easy playback of unsecure MP3 files via drag and drop. Operating on one AAA battery, the 1.7-ounce recording device includes a Digital Voice Up® function which increases the playback volume of the person speaking when recorded at a distance. The digital pitch control allows recordings to be heard at slower or faster than normal speeds without distortion to facilitate transcribing or editing, or to move faster than normal to a desired portion. A built-in USB allows the ICD-UX81 to be plugged directly into a USB port on a computer or hub, eliminating the need for cables.

At the same time, sound frequencies in the lower and higher ranges are suppressed to eliminate ambient noises from devices such as air conditioners and projectors.
