2x Ultra-Wide-Angle Zoom Lens
Take it to the limit with this ultra-wide-angle zoom lens. The Zuiko Digital ED 7-14mm f4.0 lens offers professional-class specifications, including 2x zoom capacity from a wide-angle focal length of 7mm (14mm). At its minimum wide-angle starting focal length of 7mm (equivalent to 14mm on a 35mm film camera), the lens provides an astonishing 114-degree picture angle. As a super-wide-angle lens, it allows the photographer to create extraordinary images by emphasizing depth of field and perspective. Because it is designed specifically for use with digital cameras, this lens ensures stable imaging quality right out the periphery of the image.
f4.0 Brightness
The Zuiko 7-14mm employs a f4.0 brightness that allows you to achieve superb photos even in poor lighting conditions.
ED Glass, Super ED and Double-Sided Aspherical Concave Lens Elements
Designed to capture the most mind-boggling perspectives while maintaining the highest picture quality, this lens incorporates two molded glass aspherical lens elements for effective correction of the distortion and astigmatism commonly associated with super-wide-angle lenses. Large-aperture concave lens elements that are aspherical on both sides play a particularly important role in the correction of distortion and curvature. The use of double-sided aspherical concave lens elements has succeeded in almost perfectly correcting the distortion specific to ultra-wide-angle lenses. Distortion is minimal, even when shooting close to the subject, allowing the lens to produce sharp images that precisely reflect the photographer's intentions in all types of photography.

Compared to an ordinary optical glass lens, the ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass lens presents extremely small changes in refractivity in the wavelengths from blue to red. It can improve the imaging performance of lenses by reducing chromatic aberration (a phenomenon caused by the dispersion of light produced by deviation of the focusing point due to color differences) that causes color fringing or contrast degradation. By improving the optical characteristics of the ED lens, the Super ED lens was created. Super ED offers optical dispersion characteristics comparable to those obtained with fluorite. Optimum use of ED and Super ED lenses makes it possible to effectively correct chromatic aberration and achieve sharp, high-contrast imaging performance.

Multi-Coated Lens
The Four Thirds system uses advanced lens coating technology in order to achieve optimum color balance and to reduce ghosts and flare. This coating reduces reflections regardless of the light incident angle and at a wide range of wavelengths, and has been independently optimized for each lens element. Care is also taken to prevent the digital-specific phenomenon of ghosts and flare due to reciprocal reflections between the image sensor and lens element surface. Together these refinements ensure accurate representation of natural light even in photographing against the light, providing excellent imaging performance with high contrast.
Digital Specific Lens™
Zuiko Digital lenses are designed to focus light straight into an imager's pixel wells, to fill every pixel consistently. It's optical technology that delivers an image filled from center to edge with rich, accurate color, high contrast and subtle gradation. Designed exclusively for digital photography, Zuiko Digital lenses provide a level of precision that's simply unattainable from a digital body using a traditional 35mm film lens.

The Olympus FourThirds Standard uses lenses which are just as powerful as the lenses previously developed for 35mm film camera systems despite being about half the size. Thus the focal length of the 7-14mm in the FourThirds Standard gives the same angle of view as an 14-28mm lens for a 35mm film camera. It is important to know that this is not a 2x "crop factor" -- Olympus E-System lenses are designed for this size format and have a much higher resolution than lenses designed generally for 35mm film cameras. The benefit: superb image quality but less weight to carry.

Zuiko lenses feature a near telecentric design that ensures that the light hits the photodiodes at right angles, thus avoiding the problem of blurring at the edges of the image, or corner shading, which often occurs when using lenses originally designed for 35mm film cameras. Combined with the high resolution of Olympus Zuiko Digital lenses, this lens design exploits the full potential of the digital camera image sensors. The result is clear photos with strong colors and sharp contrasts right to the edges of the image.

Smart System
Zuiko Digital lenses communicate image information directly to the Olympus E-System Digital SLR for a level of exposure accuracy that's beyond the capabilities of a passive lens.

Floating Focusing System
The inner focusing system features a "floating" mechanism that ensures excellent image quality at all ranges from infinity to extreme close-up. With a minimum working distance* of just 10cm, the lens allows the photographer to work extremely close to the subject, which is essential to create images with enhanced perspective.
